Chalk is messy and dusty and leaves marks on your clothes. It lingers in the air and falls on the tabletop, getting into everything it touches. Chalkboards are ancient, right? I know. There is nothing better, however, in helping children feel the weight of their own hand, grasping a broken piece of chalk, making a mark and memory for another day. Dry erase markers just don't create quite the same effect for little hands.
